 David Swift has been a resident of the Village since 1978. He has served 9 terms as your councilman and three years as Vice Mayor. Prior to his election to Council, he served as Chairman of the Planning and
Zoning Board. Mr. Swift works for the South Florida Water Management District as an environmental scientist and project manager. He has a Master of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University and a Bachelor of Science degree from Adrian College, Michigan. He and his wife live in the LaMancha subdivision and have a son, daughter and new granddaughter.
Vice Mayor Swift created the Village’s first education and recreation boards and has served as liaison to the Planning and Zoning, Education, and Code Enforcement Boards. Vice Mayor Swift and the Village’s Education Board were instrumental in convincing the School Board to build a high school and additional elementary schools in Royal Palm Beach and the Acreage. He was a member of the original Palm Beach County School Concurrency Task Force to ensure that sufficient classroom space is available to accommodate all students countywide. Mr. Swift’s current focus is to work with our School Board to build a new elementary school that can also serve as a hurricane shelter for our special needs population. As a member of the Florida League of Cities, Mr. Swift has served on both county and state committee boards.
As an advocate to protect the Village’s quality of life, Vice Mayor Swift has supported the development of 17 parks and recreational properties throughout the Village. He also has been active in working with the County to purchase environmentally sensitive lands such as the Royal Palms Natural Area. Vice Mayor Swift is proud of the Council’s accomplishments over the past 11 years in reducing taxes, improving our parks and roadway systems, and enhancing recreational opportunities for all of our residents. Vice Mayor Swift’s hobbies include fly fishing, kayaking and other water sport activities.
