Planning - Zoning - Engineering - Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Mission Statement:
The Planning Department ensures development is planned, constructed and documented according to the Village’s Comprehensive Plan and Village Code; Provides technical support to the Planning Commission, Village Council, and Building Division; Reviews building permits for zoning compliance; Evaluates and updates the Village Code and Comprehensive Plan; Responds to public inquiries.
The Engineering Department with collaboration from the other departments manages the expenditures of the capital improvement funds, is the Village’s liaison with the state and county regarding emergency management activities and ensures new development is planned, designed, constructed and documented appropriately.
The GIS Department provides for the continued development and maintenance of the Village GIS (Geographic Information System) to include data collection, map creation, disaster and recovery planning and in house training on database and software usage. Make data accessible to all Village Departments as well as the public.
Major Objectives
· Coordinate Village Capital Improvement Plan.
· Apply for grants.
· Manage expenditures of grant funds.
· Manage use of Village right-of-ways and easements.
· Development review of site plans, construction plans and plats.
· Maintain accurate and up to date geographic data and make GIS data
and training available to all Village Staff.
· Maintain integrated county maps and land related data with Village maps and
land related records.
· Village liaison with state and county officials regarding emergency
management activities.
· Update the Comprehensive Plan through EAR based amendments.
· Develop a user friendly Land Development Manual.
· Develop an Annexation and Redevelopment Strategy.
· Provide accurate analyses and reporting on proposed land development applications.
· Provide accurate and responsive answers to the general public regarding land
development, real property, and procedural inquiries.
· Complete the document imaging program for the Department.
